SET ends 3% lower

Thai share prices closed 3 per cent lower on Thursday on the panic selling in stocks across-the-board as concern over the US sub-prime mortgage woe is escalated and foreign investors unloaded shares following unit trust holders' redemption.

The SET index plunged immediately after the curtain was raised. It dived to the intraday's worst level at 4.43 per cent before rebounding to finish the market at 750.69, a 3 per cent slump. Turnover was moderate at Bt22.97 billion.

PTT Plc (PTT) fell 1.46 per cent at Bt270, Rayong Refinery Plc (RRC) went down 3.08 per cent at Bt22 and Thoresen Thai Agencies Plc (TTA) shed 4.92 per cent at Bt43.50.
