MRTA to promote upgraded subway's Bang Sue park-and-ride lot to mark its 15th anniversary

The Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (MRTA) will launch a campaign to encourage car owners to park their vehicles at the subway's Bang Sue car park to promote energy saving and ease traffic.

Published on August 16, 2007

Governor Prapat Chongsanguan said yesterday that the MRTA had already expanded the car park's entrance and exit areas to provide more convenience to drivers.

Next Tuesday it will start giving away 50 tickets per day for a free ride on the subway to those who park their cars at the area.

This is to mark the 15-year anniversary of the state agency. The campaign will last for a limited period.

The Bang Sue car park occupies 101 rai and can cater to 500 vehicles.

It was launched three years ago as part of the government's plan to encourage the use of the mass-transit system.

However, drivers have favoured the car park at Mo Chit Skytrain station, with space for 2,000 vehicles, and this has encouraged the MRTA to promote the Bang Sue car park.

Papat added that four car parks would be established along with the construction of the electric train's Purple Line.
