Certainly, this embrace surprised even Surayud, as reflected through a smile which shows his embarrassment.
Before the arrival of Surayud, photographers told the actress how to pose with the prime minister. She was advised to lean close to him and put her cheek on his shoulder. And when the time came, she didn't hesitate to follow instructions.
Stunning all onlookers, she whispered to the PM that she is a big fan of his, while attaching the longan campaign's pin on his shirt.
"I've been a big fan of his. He's such a gentleman," the actress told the press.
She also showed her unfathomable appreciation. While the prime minister tasted a longan, she extended her hand in front of him, asking him to spit the seed into her palm. Probably embarrassed, Surayud declined and spat the pit into his own palm.
But Surayud shouldn't think he is her only favourite. Nawarat also offered her palm to Agriculture Minister Thira Sutabutra, who did not hesitate to accommodate her.
Hmm, having Nawarat in the caravan of celebrities, the longan campaign should achieve all the goals set by the ministry.
The ministry did not reveal the criteria in recruiting celebrities for the campaign, set up to promote consumption of the Thai fruit which is suffering from historically low prices, alongside many other fruits. But the actress has been known for her liveliness and her outspoken nature. She is also famous for jokes to entertain people.
Nawarat as presenter is also right for the campaign, given the ministry's announcement that longan is good for health. The fruit contains anti-oxidants, which delay ageing and enhance potency.
It is no secret that Nawarat, aged about 50, shares her life with a younger celebrity.
How can this be linked to longan consumption?
We don't know if Nawarat is a great fan of this fruit. But if she is, Surayud and Thira don't need to worry about longan prices.
Thai people everywhere will be more than willing to chomp into the fruit.
