Sony has long been established in the digital world, with products ranging from professional broadcasting equipment to television receivers, home audio, digital cameras and notebook computers. It also has a vital place in car audio.

Prominent on the car-audio market are Sony's X-Plod products, and the hottest item from this range is currently the CD head unit. The all-new CDX-GT800D, which has a built-in AM/FM tuner, is claimed to be an integration of new technology with safety on the road.

The newest model is able to play CDs and MP3 as well as WMA and ATRAC3+ files and comes with an exceptional AM/FM tuner, built-in 24 bit D/A converter and a front-panel auxiliary input. It offers 52-watt, four-channel high-power output with internal S-Mosfet, producing more accurate sound with less distortion.

In fact, the Mosfet has an amplification quality that delivers sound like a vacuum-tube amp.

The model also comes equipped with three adjustable preamplifier outputs for front, rear and subwoofers, a high-security detachable faceplate and an adjustable motorised front panel, giving it a luxury appearance. The GT800D also has full-motion dot matrix and a large FL display and comes with a wireless remote control.

You can enjoy features like a three-band parametric equaliser. There are seven mode presets for the equaliser - plenty to choose from. You can also adjust the tone control to boost treble or bass, meaning you can select customised sound adjustments anytime you need them while simultaneously controlling bass or treble, like a high- and low-pass filter.

The BBE MP feature in this model is a digital process for restoring and enhancing lost harmonics in previously compressed music files like MP3. BBE puts the warmth and vibrancy back into the music by boosting reduced harmonics while maintaining the full original audio spectrum.

With its high-security detachable faceplate to guard against theft or for when you're taking your car in for maintenance, its adjustable motorised front panel and large FL display, I believe the GT800D will not only suit the car audio needs of most people, but also meet their expectations of what they will need in the future.
