From his viewpoint as a former tough guy in the TRT, everything must look like the perfect storm: party leader in exile and one of his pals, Jakrapob Penkair, in deep trouble for speaking out against the coup.

Panpree has high praise for Jakrapob, saying he's a whiz at political science and "a bookworm", but wonders where his sweet and nice buddy suddenly got all the aggression.

"I don't know what he's been eating," he says, acknowledging Jakrapob's Incredible-Hulk-like personality shift.

The interviewer wondered aloud whether Panpree might have also undergone a Jekyll-Hyde metamorphosis if Thaksin had appointed him as government spokesman, like Jakrapob.

Panpree almost was, in fact. He was one of the candidates for the job, which necessarily involves a lot of spinning around, sometimes on your head.
