Italian MotoGP superstar Rossi accused of tax evasion

Rome- MotoGP superstar Valentino Rossi has been accused of dodging millions of euros worth of taxes in his country of origin, Italy, and risks a hefty fine, the Adnkronos news agency reported Wednesday.

According to Italian tax officials, Rossi did not declare earnings worth 60 million euros (83 million dollars) deriving from his lucrative sponsorship deals and racing contract with Yamaha between 2000 and 2004.

The racer, who is a British resident, is also accused of setting up off-shore accounts for tax dodging purposes.

If found guilty, he faces a fine of up to 240 million euros.
