Court to review bail

The Criminal Court has set August 17 for a hearing on whether to revoke bail for six anti-coup protest leaders from the Democratic Alliance Against Dictatorship.

Police on Tuesday filed a writ contending that the six had violated their bail conditions by continuing to rouse crowds and cause social division.

Defence lawyer Jesada Chandee yesterday submitted a counter-argument stating that the six men strictly observed court orders for their temporary release and that police misconstrued their actions.

"Following their release on Monday, the six appeared before the crowds to thank their supporters and assure them they were in good health," he said in the defence writ for Veera Musigapong, Jatuporn Phromphan, Jakrapob Penkair, Natthawut Saikua, Wiputalaeng Patanapumithai and Apiwan Wiriyachai.

The six did not make any public speeches, although some of them gave interviews to express their views on the political situation, and their remarks were in line with freedom of speech, he added.
