Lucky Outfit, Gardenia Food and Thai Silp South East Asia Import Export were among the plants that went under, deputy permanent secretary Pairoj Suksamrit said.
The closures were in Pathum Thani, Chon Buri, Rayong, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Prachin Buri, Chiang Mai and Trang.
A total of 196 businesses in 15 provinces - mostly in the central and southern regions, including Phitsanulok, Kanch-anaburi, Lamphun and Satun - are on watch for possibly folding and laying off workers.
Firms in Prachuap Khiri Khan and Sukho-thai were implementing measures to stall cutbacks to their workforces, Pairoj added.
The Labour Ministry set up a central committee headed by its permanent secretary to follow through this issue nationwide and instructed all units to draw up short-term and long-term plans for each province to provide timely services to
the jobless workers such as helping them find new positions, he added.
Today at 1.30pm, Labour Minister Apai Chandanachulaka is scheduled to give a press briefing at the ministry on the unemployment situation and assistance measures.
