More funds frozen over link to Shin Corp sale

The Assets Examination Committee (AEC) yesterday froze more assets of Bhanapot Damapong, saying the money was linked to the Shin Corp sale.

Committee spokesman Sak Korsaengruang said the assets were in two funds, each worth Bt100 million, and handled by Kasikorn Asset Management. Bhanapot is a brother-in-law of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra.

The committee has imposed 10 separate assets freeze on accounts held by the Shinawatra family.

Sak said the committee had also discussed the contents of the book "Thaksin, Where Are You?"

AEC investigative panels may invite author Sunisa Lertpakawat to provide them with "useful information", he said, although none had decided to do so as yet.

Suvarnabhumi Airport bomb-scanner investigation chairman Amnuay Tantara said the Foreign Ministry had not refused to translate documents provided by the United States, as reported.

Deputy Foreign Minister Sawanit Kongsiri was reported to have suggested to the panel to hire a private translator due to the excessive technical terms involved. But Amnuay said this was not possible because the documents were confidential.
