Held in Bangkok and its neighbouring provinces, the international games for university students run from August 8-18.

The big event will attract more than 10,000 competitors from 156 countries.

"If possible, avoid roads leading to competition venues," Jaiton Sriwangpon, a host on FM 91 Traffic Pro said yesterday. The station broadcasts for the national police.

Jaiton said competition would take place at seven locations in Bangkok, one in Nonthaburi and four in Pathum Thani.

In Bangkok, the venues are Srinakharinwirot University's stadium on Sukhumvit Road, the National Stadium on Rama I Road, the Bangkok Youth Centre stadium on Mitmaitree Road, Kasetsart University's stadium on Phaholyothin Road, the Royal Thai Army stadium on Vibhavadi-Rangsit Road, the Sports Authority of Thailand stadium on Ramkhamhaeng Road and Assumption University's stadium on Soi Ramkhamhaeng 24.

Jaiton yesterday called on the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority and its concessionaires to use good buses during the event.

"When a bus breaks down, it takes at least 15 minutes to clear it out of traffic, causing jams," she said.

She added some buses stop running because they run out of petrol.

Jaiton said FM 91 Traffic Pro received complaints about more than 100 buses that broke down last month, 73 during rush hour. "When such incidents take place on main roads. the effect is felt across town," she said.
