Finnair flights :Bangkok service to double

Demand for Finnair flights between Europe and Asia has increased significantly, and the number to Thailand will double later this year.

Flexible, non-stop connections with Finnair's Asian flights have attracted even more corporate and private customers from the Nordic countries, as well as the rest of Europe, and new flights to Delhi and Bombay have gained noticeable interest.

In Finland's neighbour, Sweden, demand for Finnair's Asian traffic has grown as much as 55 per cent year on year.

Finnair's new destinations in India have already proved popular, and the latest destination, Bombay, is expected to increase in popularity during the coming autumn and winter seasons in Europe.

At the same time, established Asian routes have maintained their appeal.

Flights to Bangkok, for example, will be boosted during Europe's winter, in response to high demand. As of December 3, flights to Bangkok will operate twice daily as the peak season gets under way.

"There are over 200 flights a month from Helsinki to the various Asian destinations," said Riku Helminen, country manager for Sweden.

Mattel toy recall :Thailand to be unaffected

US toy-maker Mattel yesterday announced it was voluntarily recalling some products made by a contract manufacturer in China that were produced between April 19 and July 6 using a non-approved paint pigment containing lead.

Mattel is conducting a thorough investigation.

Thailand is not however on the list of affected markets, nor were any of the recalled toys imported into the Kingdom.

Out of the global recall of 83 types of toys, six models have been recalled in the Philippines, four in Singapore, three in Malaysia and one in Indonesia, said Mattel Southeast Asia marketing manager Cheok Ching Won in Kuala Lumpur.

"We have already informed all our retailers in the region, in those countries where the products are affected, and all affected products have already been pulled off the shelves," she said.

She added that the recall's effect on Asia would be limited.
