Dr Kopr Kritayakirana, chairman of the Foundation for the Promotion of Science and Technology under HM the King's Patronage said Prof Dr Yongwimon Lenbury from the MU Department of Mathematics was praised for her mathematical model formulations and analysis work, which applied non-linear differential equation theories and dynamical systems.
The work was used to analyse models of systems in life science, enabling better understanding on how such systems - to produce stress hormone cortisol or insulin to control blood sugar level - work and therefore led to better medical diagnosis and treatments, he said.
Another winner, Prof Dr Sompong Dhompongsa from CMU Department of Mathematics, was praised for his open-end researches on Probability Theory, Module Theory and Fixed Point Theory that brought fame to Thailand on the international stage and encouraged other mathematicians to prove the theories, he said.
Each winner will be presented with a Bt400,000 cash prize, a Shield of Honour and a certificate on National Science Day on August 18.
