SME confidence drops in June

Jhitraporn Techacharn, the director-general of the Office of Small and Medium Promotion, said on Thursday that the confidence index of SMEs in trade and service sector slightly dropped to 43.6 points in June.

In May, the index stood at 43.7 points.

The confidence index of those in the wholesale and retail sector also eased to 43.2 from 44.4 in the corresponding period.

SMEs' economic confidence index slid from 39.7 to 30.9 and those SMEs also showed less confidence in the outlook of their own business, Jhitraporn said.

"The index drops due to the economic slowdown and political instability, which leads to lower consumer spending," she said.
