The committee has no authority to remove Jaran from office, Saneh said. However, he said he would agree if the National Legislative Assembly filed a motion to debate Jaran's conduct.
"If the NLA wants to remove us from office, we are ready to accept because our performance is always criticised. It is said that we have not achieved anything," he said.
However, he insisted that he would continue to do the job of chairman until the new commission has been selected.
NLA member Wallop Tangkhananurak said more than 50 NLA members had signed a petition demanding that Jaran withdraw from the NHRC. This was sufficient to file a motion to debate Jaran's case. They aimed to gather over 100 signatures in order to submit a motion to the NLA chairman to remove Jaran in the session next Wednesday.
He said some members were concerned about the NLA's authority to remove Jaran, and they may ask the Tribunal Court to consider the case.
"If we cannot remove him, at least we have signalled that we disagree with his performance," Wallop said.
