The amount sought is to make way for the BMA's four road construction projects aimed at tackling traffic congestion, the source said.
The 1.7-kilometre road construction and expansion project linking Soi Ratchadapisek 32 and Lat Phrao Road (Abhapi-rom) would entail expropriation of 90 plots of land and 85 buildings.
The Bt200-million Cherd-wutthakard Road expansion project to ease traffic jams on Vibhavadi-Rangsit would ex-propriate 122 plots and 60 buildings.
The Bt179-million Sri Nakarin Road (Sripat intersection) expansion would expropriate 10 plots and 10 buildings, and the Bt100-million short cut linking Phaholyothin Road to Vibhavadi-Rangsit would epropriate 70 plots and 100 buildings.
The budget committee's sub-panel is studying whether the expropriation expenses are appropriate and will finalise its report for the committee by Saturday, before the matter is submitted for the Bangkok Council's consideration, the source said. In related news, the BMA has ordered the owners of abandoned buildings to put up fences in a bid to prevent criminals trespassing on or committing crimes in the premises, BMA deputy governor Bannasopit Mekwichai said yesterday.
She said all district offices had been instructed to survey abandoned or unfinished buildings of five floors or more in their jurisdictions.
Many people exploit abandoned buildings by setting up food stalls or other enterprises, she said.
As some buildings have become robbery or rape scenes, the BMA will ask the property owners to put up fences to prevent such occurences. Police will also step up patrols of such areas, especially at night.
