SET tumbles 3.06%

The SET index slumped 3.06 per cent on tumble in the regional stock markets sparked by fresh anxiety over the US sub-prime mortgage problem.

Thai share prices closed at 833.47, off the day's low at 832.79. Turnover was moderate at Bt25.94 billion.

Energy and bank stocks were the tyop losers. Thai Oil Plc (TOP) dropped 7.43 per cent at Bt81, Rayong Refinery Plc (RRC) slumped 3.32 per cent at Bt23.30, PTT Exploration and Production Plc (PTTEP) fell 3.91 per cent at Bt123, Bangkok Bank (BBL) was off 3.91 per cent at Bt123, and Siam Commercial Bank (SCB) lost 3.66 per cent at Bt79.
