Kosit: No more baht measures
Deputy Prime Minister and Industry Minister Kosit Panpiemras said on
Wednesday that the six measures approved last week to stem the baht
appreciation against US dollar should be sufficient for the time being.

"The six measures are appropriate for the situation and I think they are sufficient. There should be no more measure," he said.
On August 6, he would chair the economic steering committee where the six measures would be discussed along side with additional guidelines to manage capital flows.
Kosit said that the meeting would also discuss the guidelines in promoting Thai investment overseas, which would be proposed by Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet.
Kosit added that though the baht is stabilised, Thailand needs to be alert to possible changes. He also referred to Bank of Thailand Governor Tarisa Watanagase's promise to monitor the situation second by second.
Santi Vilassakdanont, chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries, said on Wednesday that due to the six measures, the baht has weakened to Bt33.80 per dollar.
"We're satisfied with the level as we must admit that it is difficult for the baht to weaken further due to huge capital inflows to the stock market.
However, if all six measures are exercised, the baht could weaken. The private sector will wait for 1-2 months to see what the situation will develop, then we may consider propose more measures," he said.
