Somkid Puengmulee, head of a fishermen's group at Baan Pa Kongkarng, said the female pilot whale, weighing about one tonne and four metres in length, had wounds all over its body.
Fisherman Sord Mardso said he spotted the whale stuck near the shore from his boat at 1pm.
The injured mammal was still alive and he and six neighbours tried for an hour to try to drag it back to sea, but it died before they could save it, he said.
Samphanthawong :Fire razes four shop houses
Authorities in Bangkok's Samphanthawong district yesterday blocked public access to four shop houses near Sampheng Market that caught fire on Sunday night.
District chief Prasert Inthusoma said although an initial assessment found the building structure was still strong, he had issued an order preventing access pending an investigation into the cause of the fire. The fire broke out at 9.45pm on Sunday night at the four shops - used to store cloth - in Soi Wanich 1 near Sampheng Market. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control.
