The National Telecommuni-cations Commission (NTC) will consider the application next week, said an NTC source, adding that the company had applied for a type-three licence, which is for applicants with their own networks.
He added that Super Broadband might have to invest about Bt1 billion in the business.
Earlier, AIS planned to have broadband Internet provider Advanced Data Network Communication (ADC), its joint venture with TOT, apply for the same licence.
But TOT, which owns 49 per cent of ADC, opposed the plan out of concern ADC could compete against TOT in the future. TOT also owns AIS's mobile-phone concession.
The largest cellular operator, AIS has more than 20 million subscribers. Wholly-owned subsidiary AIN GlobalComm has already been granted an NTC licence to operate an international calling service.
