Ullrich may get back on bike for charity race

Stuttgart - Former German cycling star Jan Ullrich may get back on his bike for a charity race in October, the Bild am Sonntag Sunday paper reported.

Ullrich's manager Wolfgang Strohband was quoted as saying that Ullrich is yet to make up his mind after being invited to the October 3 race in Weil. All income generated by the race is to go to children and youth projects in Stuttgart.

Organizer Heinz Betz told Bild am Sonntag he was not concerned about the image of the race in connection with doping accusations against Ullrich, which prompted the former Tour de France winner to retire earlier this year. Ullrich last raced in June 2006.

"Ullrich's past has to be judged by others. This is only about the benefit for children," Betz said.
