Energy Minister Piyasvasti Amranand said power companies had bought up 60 bidding documents as of yesterday, though the ministry would purchase only 3,200 megawatts in 2012-2014. Meanwhile, small power-producers also propose to generate 1,400MW, although the ministry plans to buy only 500MW.
More players will increase competition, which could lead to lower power prices, Piyasvasti said.
He added that the ministry planned to increase the return on investment of the Metropolitan Electricity Authority to encourage it to invest Bt240 billion in putting all electrical lines underground.
M1 expressway
The Expressway and Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand (ETA) has awarded a Bt26.2-million contract to a consulting team which will study the engineering, economic, financial and environmental feasibility of the new M1 expressway.
The M1 is planned to serve traffic to and from Suvarnabhumi Airport. It will link to Rama IV Road and run 22.5 kilometres.
The contract was signed on July 20.
The consulting team consists of Team Consulting Engineering and Management and SD Con Corporation.
After the feasibility study the team will hold seminars to keep the public informed.
