Delay to expansion

Swatch Group Trading (Thailand) will put off expansion of its sales outlets for "ck" watches until next year and open only two sales points in Bangkok for its "ck" jewellery, due to persistent political uncertainty.

Brand manager Porntip Hengangai yesterday said ck's sales in Thailand increased 26 per cent last year, with watches contributing 80 per cent and jewellery 20 per cent. Sales have already jumped 50 per cent during the first seven months of this year. The target for the whole year is 55 per cent, she said.

Despite ck experiencing many unfavourable factors since last year, Thailand is still ck's third-largest market in Asia and 17th largest worldwide.

Porntip said ck's global sales rose 20 per cent last year, while ck's sales in Asia grew 32.2 per cent. The company yesterday held a "ck 10th Year Party" to celebrate the Swatch Group's 10th year in Thailand and used the opportunity to launch its new collection.
