Govt ready for Web war

The government is considering launching a new website to counter those of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra, PM's Office minister Thiraphat Serirangsan said yesterday.

Thiraphat was speaking after Thaksin launched a new website, www.truethaksin.com, which late last night was still blank.

Thiraphat said it was Thaksin's right to open the site, which the state would not criticise or shut down, but if it carried misinformation then the government would have to counter it and explain why.

Thiraphat said Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont had told Cabinet on Tuesday most political websites were being operated by the old power clique while the government seemed to be neglecting its own to explain its position to local and the international audiences.

"The premier suggested the government should look into the website issue, and the ICT minister Sitthichai Pookaiyaudom said he would set up a working team to establish a website and monitor other sites that attack the government," Thiraphat said. - The Nation
