Industrial Confidence Index down on politics
June's industrial confidence index declined to 80.9 from 86.1 in the previous month, due to the strong baht as well as slowing domestic consumption, according to the Federation of Thai Industries.
"While manufacturing orders drop, the business operators suffer from higher operating costs. As they cannot raise product prices, the business will suffer from lower operating profits," said FTI vice chairman Adisak Rohitasun.
In June, what worried manufacturers the most were political instability, the strong baht, higher energy costs, purchasing power and raw material costs. While export-oriented companies were concerned largely on the strong baht, those domestic-oriented companies highlighted potilical instability as the most worrying factor.
The survey covered 505 samples from 35 industrial groups under the FTI.
