The English club owned by Thailand's former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra informed the Football Association of Thailand [FAT] that they wanted to give Thai players, who are competent enough, a trial with a possible lucrative transfer to arguably the world's most popular league on offer. The FAT has subsequently selected the 19-year-old Teerasil and his two Asian Cup team-mates Suree Sukha and Kiatprawut Saiwaeo for the overseas trial.
Despite not featuring in any of Thailand's matches in the Asian Cup, rising star Teerasil, who was promoted from the Pre-Olympic squad along with Kiatprawut, has tremendous potential that belies his age, with his countless achievements at student level providing the evidence. Teerasil's body frame would also be helpful in playing in the league in which physical challenges are one of its features.
The 21-year-old centre-back Kiatprawut wiped the substitute tag off with an outstanding performance when he deputised for injured Jetsada Jitswad in Thailand's historic 2-0 win over Oman in their Group A match in the Asian Cup.
Having turned in a series of eye-catching performances in Thailand's group campaign, right back Suree, who has just turned 25 year, was the only Thai player to be named in the Asian Cup Team of Group stage according to goal.com website.
FAT president Worawi Makudi is convinced the Thai trio are good enough for the Premier League.
"I believed our football standard and player ability are as good as other countries. The only difference is that the players have not had the opportunity as many others," Worawi said.
"I think the three would fare well in the trial. They are still young and have a strong desire to play in the Premier League."
