Danai won the first set 6-2 but was then kept at bay by Suzuki, who won the subsequent sets 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 at the Le Club De Tennis De Granby.
Beating Danai is not new to Suzuki. The Japanese serve-and-volleyer had fought off a match point to defeat the Thai in the Davis Cup tie in Osaka two years ago.
Thailand still have representatives in the tournament in the form of doubles top seeds Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana, who will be in action this week.
Fresh from back-to-back semi-final berths in ATP events in Newport and Los Angeles, the twins play Canadians Erik Chvojka and Vasek Pospisil in the first round.
