Kan Trakulhoon, president of Siam Cement Plc, said at a press conference on Wednesday that the group's total sales in the second quarter were Bt63.6 billion. Its net profit reached Bt8.8 billion, or 16 per cent from the same period last year.

Meanwhile, sales in the first half was slightly changed from the same period last year at Bt128.9 billion. Net profit in the first six months dropped 1 per cent year on year to Bt17 billion.

Kan said that every Bt1 increase in the Thai baht against US dollar slashes the group's net profit by Bt900 million.

He also said that throughout this year, the group's sale revenue may stay flat from last year, against the 5 per cent growth target.
