Bernama News Agency quoted Syaromi Ramli, economic counsellor at the Malaysian Embassy in Bangkok, as saying the Ministry of International Trade and Industry and the Malaysia External Trade Development Corp have teamed up to open a Malaysian pavilion at the expo.

He said the TFBO provided good opportunities for Malaysian businesses to promote their products and seek networking as there would be more than 250 booths from 10 countries to tap the Thai population of 65 million besides the 400-million strong Asean market. "This is a good platform for our companies to franchise their businesses as there are not many in Thailand now," he said.

TFBO, Thailand's only international franchise, licensing and business opportunities event, attracted visitors from 37 countries last year.

Samsung deal

South Korea-based Samsung Engineering has won a US$470-million (Bt15.84 billion) order from Thai state-run oil company PTT to build a chemical plant.

Yonhap News Agency said the project focused on the construction of an ethane-separation plant in Map Ta Phut in Rayong. It is scheduled for completion by February 2010, Samsung Engineering said in a regulatory filing.

The plant will have a daily processing capacity of 800 million square feet of ethane gas, making it the world's largest ethane-separation plant. It will produce 550,000 tonnes of ethane gas annually.

Condo launch

Ananda Development is expanding its market to include city condominiums with its Bt800-million first project named IDEO Ladprao 17 in Bangkok.

The project, located near a subway station, focuses on the modern generation, with a starting price of Bt1.7 million. The company also plans to launch five other projects worth Bt6.3 billion and will appoint Aquarius Estate as its project consultant and sales agent.

Currently, Ananda has four new projects launched during the first half of 2007. They are the Bt1.72-billion Maldives Palm, the Bt815-million Lanta Resort, the Bt933-million Wikiki Shore and the Bt1.05-billion Similan Reef.
