Court orders BKK Post to reinstate ex-security editor

Bangkok Post's former security editor Sermsuk Kasitipradit, sacked for his report on the new airport's runaway cracks, wins over his newspaper as the Central Labour Court orders his reinstatement.

The court also ordered the newspaper's provident fund to pay him Bt623,700 in employer contributions plus interest from August 29, 2005 when he was fired until the day he receives the money.

The court said Sermsuk had not violated any regulations for proposing his report to the Bangkok Post editorial desk for publishing.

Sermsuk sued Post Publishing, former editor David Armstrong and the board of the newspaper's provident fund for sacking him over his controversial report on the runway cracks at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

The disputes were over whether Sermsuk's employment contract was terminated legally, whether Post Publishing and Armstrong committed torts against Sermsuk and whether Sermsuk was entitled to severance pay of more than Bt623,000.
