Thai kids won one gold and three silver medals at Intl chemistry olympiad
Thai students won one gold medal and three silver medals from the 39th annual International Chemistry Olympiad held in Moscow from July 15 to 24, an official said on Tuesday.
Competing against teams from 68 other countries, Bovorn Hongsrijinda of Assumption College Bangrak won the gold medal, said deputy director of the Institute for the Promotion of Teaching Science and Technology (IPST), Naree Wongsirojanakul.
Thanathorn Korthaveewattana from Mahidol Wittayanusorn School, Pornchai Kaewsabsak from Trium Udom Suksak School and Techin Chulates from Trium Udom Suksak School each won a silver.
The Thai team and their teachers will arrive back at Suvarnabhumi Airport tomorrow morning.
In related news, Chatchawal Khamyong, a fourthyear student from Chiang Mai's Payap University, won first prize in the MS Excel 2003 application at the Microsoft Office Specialist Olympics 2007 held on July 19 in Orlando, Florida.
A computerscience major, Chatchawal received US$4,500 (Bt150,000) in cash along with a notebook computer and the latest program from Microsoft, said Thanaporn Panjira, head of the university's public relations department.
More than 33,000 students from 74 countries participated in the contest.
