Totti resigns from Italian National team

Rome - Italian striker Francesco Totti on Friday announced his resignation from the Italian football team, with whom he won the world championship last year.

"I am sorry, but my health comes first," he said. "I can only play so many games each season and my club AS Roma have to have priority."

Totti last played for the Azzurri in last year's World Cup final against France.
