A special police unit escorts drug suspect Kao Chai Lun, also known as Setthanat Sirijirasuk, second from left, to Chachoengsao Provincial Court yesterday for a remand order.
A local court spent 40 minutes hearing a police request to detain Kao Chai Lun, who also uses the Thai names of Setthanat Sirijirasuk and Jaral Muangkhao.
Lun, 48, was arrested at Suvarnabhumi Airport on Tuesday.
He had been extradited from Taiwan after completing a prison term for document forgery.
Police sources said the additional protection was sought because it is believed he has been put on a death list by many local drug dealers who want to silence him.
Bang Khen police in Bangkok later submitted a request to the court to detain him on a charge of dealing in amphetamine tablets, after police raided a home on July 15, 2001 and found evidence linking him with the illicit business.
One more suspect linked to Lun's ring, a Thai man identified as Jeerawat Buajan, is still on the run.
Police recently seized Lun's assets in Phitsanulok.
