More yachts are expected to register at the last minute but this year's edition is already billed as the largest ever for the event.
Now in its fourth year, the Phuket Race Week, which is run at international standards, has established itself as a fixture of the sailing scene in Thailand.
With seven classes, the action on the water promises to be spectacular. The always popular Raimon Land Firefly class -boats built specifically to navigate Phuket's waters- will provide some fast-paced racing with veterans Moto Inzi, Pink Lady and Mamba ready to battle it out after their duel in December at the Phuket King's Cup Regatta.
The strong contingent of Phuket-based yachts is bent on keeping the trophy on home turf but they will have to fight off the assaults of several entries from Hong Kong, Australia, Malaysia and Singapore.
On land, festivities will provide sailors with some well-deserved respite from the rigors of the race. The various events are open to the public. Raimon Land invites all to join in the social activities, especially on Saturday, July 21st at the Raimon Land party at Ratri Jazztaurant overlooking Kata beach.
