Economic Drive Expo to kick off up North

To fight the slow-down in consumption, the Commerce Ministry will launch a nationwide campaign this month called the Economic Drive Expo, starting in the North. The first fair will be held in Chiang Mai from July 25-29 with more than 800 booths displaying products from all over the country.

"The government hopes that the expo will stimulate demand during these times of weak consumer confidence and generate sales of Bt70 million, as well as open trading channels for enterprises," Commerce Minister Krirk-krai Jirapaet said yesterday.

This year, the economy in the North is expected to grow 4.2 per cent compared with 4.81 per cent last year. The region's economy accounts for 13.55 per cent of gross domestic product. - The Nation

Five ultra-luxury suites in Thailand were selected by Elite Traveller as among the world's top 101 luxury suites.

Asia-Pacific is one of the top regions with 21 suites, and Thailand scored big with five ultra-luxury suites at Amanpuri, Banyan Tree Phuket, Four Seasons Resort Koh Samui, Karma Samui and Lebua at State Tower.

Elite Traveller, the luxury lifestyle magazine distributed aboard private jets in over 90 countries, just released its Sixth Annual Pure Decadence issue. The July/August issue features the 101 most luxurious hotel and resort suites from around the world. - The Nation

Cheap travel to Manila

Cebu Pacific, the Philippines low-fare leader and leading domestic carrier, last week reduced its year-round "Go" fare for its Manila-Bangkok route to 2,499 pesos (Bt1,685).

This is equivalent to a 17-per-cent fare reduction from the current lowest Go fare offering of 2,999 pesos. The reduced one-way fare is 70 per cent less than the lowest airfare of other airlines for this route. Fares are exclusive of applicable government taxes and surcharges. - The Nation
