Highlights of the week :Hearing on security Bill

The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) will hold a forum at Parliament House this morning to hear peoples' opinions on the Internal Security Bill.

Approved in principle by the Cabinet, the bill has been criticised by many groups, including media associations and human rights organisations, for giving the military too much power.

Ex-thai rak thai MPs to meet

Former Thai Rak Thai MPs will today hold a meeting to discuss their policy platform for the next general election.

They will start a campaign to seek public backing for the former Thai Rak Thai MPs to continue their political career based on the party's policies and also seek their support in forming a new party.

They will also inform people how undemocratic the draft constitution is, in an attempt to have it rejected.

NLA to debate referendum bill

The NLA committee on the constitution referendum will allow members seeking changes to the Referendum Bill to debate their points tomorrow before the Bill is passed next week.

On Wednesday, the NLA will meet to consider the bill on political party registration. The bill is an amendment to the announcement by the Council for Democratic Reform - the Council of National Security's earlier name - banning registration of new political parties in the wake of the coup.

Thaksin to appeal to civil court

On Wednesday, lawyers of former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra will file a petition with the Civil Court calling for an order to release Thaksin's accounts frozen by the Assets Examination Committee (AEC).

CDA panel to meet

On Friday, the Constitution Drafting Assembly's committee to promote the constitution draft will meet in Phuket to chart out its work in the provinces.
