Ratthapark finishes 19th in German Grand Prix

[MOTORCYCLING] Battling through the pain barrier with a sore back sustained in a heavy crash in Saturday's free practice session, Ratthapark Wilairot took the chequered flag in 19th at the Sachsenring circuit, Germany yesterday.

The Thai Honda PTT SAG had a poor start but it didn't make much of a difference on his final result as he was very uncomfortable riding his Honda and struggled a lot in braking areas. His leathers bore the marks of a tough race as he came back to the pits with a completely destroyed left knee slider and even damaged the leather protection as he was unable to pick his left knee up on the numerous left corners of the circuit.

After a hard race in Germany, Wilairot said: "I had a really tough day riding today. When braking hard, my shoulder was really hurting and I couldn't move around the bike the way I would have liked. I gave everything I had but I simply wasn't fit enough and I wasn't able to score points."

Thai Honda PTT SAG team owner Eduardo Perales commented: "Ratthapark proved he's not the kind of rider who gives up easily: despite his injuries he worked hard until the very last lap even if he knew he would make it in the points. Others would have just took it easy but he did his best throughout the 29 laps of the race. The team is pleased with his effort and by the spirit he showed today because crashing yesterday was a hard blow for him."
