Kemboi wins Pattaya Marathon in new record times

Terrific Joel Kiplimo Kemboi yesterday smashed a seven-year course record of Pattaya Marathon to claim a handsome Bt250,000 cash prize as Sunisa Sailomyen salvaged the pride of the host nation to win the women's crown.



[ATHLETICS] Terrific Joel Kiplimo Kemboi yesterday smashed a seven-year course record of Pattaya Marathon to claim a handsome Bt250,000 cash prize as Sunisa Sailomyen salvaged the pride of the host nation to win the women's crown.

For victory, Kemboi landed the coveted Prime Minister Surayudh Julanont's Trophy, the top prize money of Bt200,000, the biggest cash prize ever given in local marathons, plus a special cash prize of Bt50,000 for breaking the course record.

Meanwhile, Sunisa Sailomyen from Doi Om Koi in Chiang Mai made a hat-trick of victory in the Pattaya Marathon yesterday. Sunisa crossed the finish line in 2:58.28 hours to capture the trophy and a cash prize of Bt150,000, also the biggest for the women's runners in local marathons. Compatriot Saifon Piawong (3:00.22) and Uzbekistan's Peregelleina Tagina (3:06.41) finished second and third places respectively.
