Ratthapark Wilairot was 19th fastest in today's German GP first qualifying session at the Sachsenring circuit. The Thai youngster posted a best time of 1'26.960 to conclude the day just over two seconds adrift from pace-setter and reigning World Champion Jorge Lorenzo.

This morning, in the first free practice session, Wilairot was over four seconds off the pace but once more he was able to prove his ability to assess the demands of a new circuit and improved significantly his lap times every time he went back on the track.

After his first day of practice at the Sachsenring, the Thai Honda PTT SAG rider said: "On this track, direction changes are crucial and the way you handle the throttle is also very important. With constant elevation changes, you have to move around the bike a lot. At the moment, I struggle a bit in the long left hander right after the uphill section. I posted a good lap time today but I more pleased with the pace I was able to sustain."

Team owner Eduardo Perales commented: "This is a very demanding track and it doesn't allow the rider to relax at any moment, but Ratthapark did a great job again. Once more he proved to be a quick learner and progressed steadily throughout the two sessions. I believe he's able to lap quicker, the gap with the front runners could be less than two seconds, but for today he was very consistent and did many laps close to his best time so that's a good sign for Sunday's race."
