Shell Oil commissioned an independent market research consultant to carry out the queries with 3,326 motorists in the Asia-Pacific region, Latin America and Europe for its "Easy To Do, But Would You Do It" report.
"In all of the countries surveyed, drivers who don't do anything" in taking measures for improving mileage are more than those who do, the findings said.
The Philippines emerged on top with 48 per cent of respondents taking steps to get more mileage out of their cars followed by Australia at 45 per cent and New Zealand at 44 per cent.
Germany came in fourth at 42 per cent, trailed by the UK, 41 per cent, the Netherlands, 40 per cent and Denmark, 37 per cent.
The bottom four were Chile, 29 per cent, Malaysia 28 per cent, Hong Kong, 25 per cent, and Singapore 15 per cent, the report said.
The survey average for taking measures to improve mileage was 37 per cent.
Shell said the report was aimed at discovering "whether motorists today are thinking about saving fuel while they drive, and whether awareness is translating into action."//Deutsche Presse Agentur (DPA).
