The group launched a four-day educational and fun-filled event at Siam Paragon to celebrate the occasion. Chairing the opening ceremony was Deputy Prime Minister Paiboon Wattanasiritham, who hailed NMG as a guardian of the "three pillars" of the media: freedom, ethical responsibility and quality.
Distinguished guests were presented with an ethics handbook, which has been the professional doctrine of all NMG journalists and is being taught to students at Huachiew Chalerm-prakiet University in a joint mass communications course aimed at creating a qualified new generation of journalists.
The four-day event at the Fashion Hall at Siam Paragon features a multimedia exhibition intended to offer a reflective and entertaining walk down memory lane, and a glimpse into the future of Thailand.
Starting today, there will be games, talk shows, performances by leading and up-and-coming artists, auctions and scholarship presentations. (Check out the schedules for all activities on page 9B.)
Guests were asked not to bring flowers or gifts yesterday, but were encouraged to make donations for students in the three southernmost provinces, and for needy children. This proved to be a highly successful activity.
Internationally renowned cartoonist Stephff proved a hit among Nation fans and he will be at Siam Paragon again tomorrow to present his own work as autographed gifts. There will be talk shows offering knowledge on e-commerce, beauty and health tips, home design and how to run a successful restaurant business.
Among the leading artists to perform mini-concerts are Patcha and Boy from "Academy Fantasia II".
