Tokyo: 451,000 Chinese DVD players to be recalled

Nagase & Co Ltd announced Wednesday (July 11) it would recall about 451,000 portable DVD players it had imported from China for sale due to fears of smoke and fire coming from the products.

The chemical product trading company is to voluntarily recall goods including DVD players in its Axion range that it had been selling since June 2003.

The company also would recall about 7,000 liquid-crystal display televisions with built-in DVD players and about 2,000 digital photograph frames.

The goods in question will be recalled because of fears that the frames of the liquid crystal displays could overheat due to poor soldering and give off smoke or catch fire.

Nagase has received 547 complaints from users to date.

Concerned consumers should call the company's helpline at (0120) 181-655.
