More focus for research
Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said the government is committed to providing more supports to research and development, through higher budgets for government units, to support the social and economic development.
In his speech to mark the opening of the National Research Council of Thailand's conference on Friday, he said the western world has emphasised on R&D and made use of the knowledge in the areas of social and economic development, environment technology and national security. And as a result, they play an important role in the world stage.
Meanwhile, Asian countries like Japan and South Korea have put great emphasis on the R&D.
"Researchs are important and it will be the fundamentals in all areas of development," he said.
