Electrical/electronics sector hit by strong baht

Electrical and electronic appliance manufacturers have been bullish in exporting their products, even though they have been hurt by the strong baht, said an executive in the industry.

Charuek Hengrasmee, president of the Electrical and Electronics Insitute, said on Wednesday that manufacturers in the industry have been hurt by the strong baht as well as the higher costs of raw materials.

"Still, we need to export as much as possible as the domestic demand is slowing. We export though that is done at a loss. The only way out now is to move towards gree products, and avoid the commodity product market," Charuek said in the Industry Ministry-sponsored CEO Forum.

Thai baht has spiralled upwards, leaving exporters at a loss.
