Sonthi declines to commit himself on political future

Council for National Security chairman Gen Sonthi Boonyaratglin Tuesday sidestepped reporters' questions as to whether he would stand in the next general election.

Sonthi was arriving at Government House at 8:45 am to attend the weekly Cabinet meeting when an army of reporters swarmed him and asked him to comment on an interview of Defence Minister Gen Boonrawd Somtas who said Sonthi would contest the next election.

"You must him yourselves," Sonthi replied and walked upstairs.

Boonrawd himself would not provide an explanation to reporters why he had given the interview that Sonthi would run in the next poll.

He walked upstairs to attend the meeting immediately when reporters asked him why he had given interview so.
