The group led by Somkiat Ponpai said Council for National Security Chairman General Sonthi Boonyaratglin had promised them on Monday to table the Pak Mul issue to the Cabinet meeting today, so they came gathering in front of the Government House to hear the result.
They also lit candles as a symbol of wisdom that the Cabinet should have in considering this issue based on scientific facts rather than the heresy statistics the Energy Ministry used to convince them to close the gate, they said. They urged that, if the Cabinet decided to open the gate, it would be a return of justice to river lives especially the fish awaiting the gate opening to migrate along Mul River and complete the natural food chain. If the government wanted to tackle poverty and promote self-sufficient, the gate opening was the way to go, they urged.
