June revenues above target

The government collected more from personal and corporate income taxes but less value-added tax (VAT) last month, a Finance Ministry spokesman said yesterday.

Somchai Sujjapongse said the government's net revenues last month rose to Bt99.37 billion - 1.9 per cent higher than targeted and 29.2 per cent more than in the same month last year - due largely to higher contributions from state enterprises and petroleum tax receipts.

The Revenue Department collected Bt15.66 billion in personal income tax last month, 10 per cent higher than estimated and an 18.8-per-cent rise year on year. Corporate income-tax receipts rose 11.7 per cent year on year to Bt16.9 billion - 5.8 per cent higher than targeted, he said. However, VAT collections dropped 0.3 per cent from last year to Bt36.55 billion, or 8.3 per cent lower than targeted.

The Revenue Department's total tax collection was Bt76.43 billion, 3.6 per cent above target and 11.6 per cent higher than in June 2006.

The Excise Department's June collections were 7.2 per cent below target and down 6.8 per cent year on year at Bt22.53 billion. Excise from electrical home appliances, motorcycles and liquor and beer all dropped from last year. Only excise on vehicles rose from last year, to Bt5.2 billion, an increase of 2.6 per cent.

The Customs Department collected import tariffs of Bt7.67 billion, 2 per cent above target but 2.5 per cent lower than last year.

Government revenues between October 2006 and June 2007 were Bt1.04 trillion, 0.4 per cent higher than projected and up 5.7 per cent year on year, Somchai added.
