Govt fares poorly in latest opinion poll

Residents in and around Bangkok are less satisfied with the government's performance, according to a university poll.

The Bangkok University research institute Bangkok Poll gave the Surayud-Chulanont government a 4.32-point approval rating. The maximum is 10.

This is a fall from 4.53 points three months earlier and 5.27 points six months ago.

The institute surveyed 1,258 respondents in and around Bangkok between June 29 and July 4.

Government efforts to stamp out corruption won it the most plaudits with 21.5 per cent of respondents expressing satisfaction.

Meanwhile, 31.6 per cent said it was most disappointed with progress in solving violence in the South.
