His Majesty concerned

His Majesty the King was concerned about global warming and had urged local communities and state agencies to help preŽserve water resources, Royal Irrigation Department (RID) chief Samart Chokanapitak said yesterŽday.

The RID had been providŽing continuous reports on environmental and water resources to His Majesty, Samart said, including information on global warming - a topic about which His Majesty had expressed particular conŽcern.

Many international organŽisations had also provided His Majesty with reports on the problem.

Samart said the King was concerned about affected areas and had instructed the agency to implement solutions based on commuŽnity participation.

He said a mobile phone message campaign, to report on the condition of water resources in Thailand, would be launched at the end of this month, to keep citizens - especially in risky areas - informed about and preŽpared for natural disasters and water crises.
