Stronger baht hits textile export

The Export Promotion Department said the stronger baht has hit the garment and textile export.

The department's deputy director general Benchawan Rattanaprayoon said on Monday in the seminar about the trend of the apparel, shoes, and leather goods this year that the export of the garment and textile has experienced a slow growth, partially due to the continued baht appreciation.

According to the department, the sector recorded the growth of 2.1 per cent during the first five months, totaling US$2.743 billion in value. The department targets the growth of garment and textile export this year of 4.9 per cent, totaling US$7.1 billion.
