
The Rotary Club of Laguna Phuket, in conjunction with the Avoca Beach Surf Life Saving Club from Australia and sponsored by the Australian government, is organizing a FREE full day course of Life Saving Training on July 11-13 at the Dusit Laguna Resort Phuket, Bangtao Beach.
The training, conducted by six experienced Australian trainers, aims to raise awareness and educate local Thai people of surf and water safety. All agencies concerning the safety by and in the water such as government agencies, hotel operators and staff and beach guards are encouraged to take part in this opportunity.
Current President of Rotary Club of Laguna Phuket and Dusit Laguna Resort's General Manager, Jan Verduyn said, "We have very quick responses from interested individuals and organizations, not only those in Phuket but also from Phi Phi islands and even a participant from Maui in Hawaii. It is a great opportunity for everyone, especially local people, to be aware, learn about and practice for safety."
The first two of the three days training are for interested general public most of whom are resort and hotel staff, and the rest are beach guards, tour guides, a volunteer diver and hospital staff. One day training is dedicated for students of age about 16-17 years old from Cherngtalay Wittayakom School.
Training participants will be given certificates by the Australian Life Guard Association. The Dusit Laguna Resort will provide the training room and area.
The training, taken place indoors for theory and on the beach for practice, providing medical doctors and specialized instructor/trainers, is free of charge. It is scheduled for 9:00-12:00 am and 2:00-5:00 pm.
The training organizer Rotary Club of Laguna Phuket was chartered in 2006 with the then President John Magee. It will have a joint installation night with the Rotary Club of Patong Beach on July 15 at the Holiday Inn, Patong Beach. All Rotary supporters are welcome to join.
